Tutorial 1: Easy Changeable Container Labels
So I think that one of my greatest organizing ideas to date
is how I label containers. Why? Well I have come to realize that I love organizing more that actually using all my stuff. I also, of course, love to organize my family
as well. This means I often switch
things around, combine this and that, and generally make more order out of that
which was already far from chaotic.
My system? Hockey Card Collection Binder Sheets.
(or Baseball for my southern friends, but here it Ottawa, it is Hockey, Hockey,
Hockey)
Supplies:
Hockey
Card Collection Binder Sheets – a pkg of 8 sheets is $1.00 at Dollarama – this works
out to 48 pockets!
Double Sided Tape – 3 rolls for $1.00 at Dollarama (you’ll
have gobs left over)
Paper/cardstock –
whatever you like - and your printer if
you are picky like me and want everything to be matchy matchy
Step 1: Cut the sheet into 6 individual pockets.
Be mindful of the seams and cut the page so that you end up
with 6 pockets from the 2 outside columns of the sheet. The middle column will
be sacrificed for the greater good.
Step 2: Print out your label and insert it into the
pocket.
I do this before I put on the tape
because, depending on what I am labeling, I have different sized pockets. Trim
the pocket to fit the label. (FYI – the overall dimensions of the pocket are 3.5" x 2.75”)(Also, I created tables in Word
that are the right dimensions and just reuse this file over and over)
Step 3: Put double sided tape on the back of the pocket and adhere
to your container. Voila!
I have used this on many containers in my house and I
include as much or as little info as I see fit. (even since I took these pictures,
I have reorganized my boys Lego and all the labels are now different and all I
had to do was switch out a piece of paper.)
Happy organizing (and reorganizing!),
Lesley
